Oh La La ~ I am so loving the French General Fabrics in red, white, and linen!

Ohio Star block one …

and block 2 made for Jaleh — Not Your Grandma’s Quilting Bee.

I am totally inspired to make a mini holiday quilt like this one HERE

from the Lumiere de Noel holiday fabric line from French General

and maybe even a Christmas throw quilt to match!

Sigh…so many lovely fabrics

yet “sew” little time to use them all ;D

Happy sewing,

Colette

Filed under: October 2010,Swaps — The Threaded Nest @ 10:51 am

…ready for Christmas that is!

Look at what the postmistress brought me this morning!

R. ripped open each package and we “oohed” and “awed” over each little package ~

jolly good fun!

I received this fab.u.lous Savvy Seasons Swap package from Anna (thejoycottage)

that included a lovely embroidered mini quilt (there are even tiny little things in each window!)

appliqued/embroidered table runner

mug rug (which definitely needs this Emma Bridgewater cup to match)

and some of my favorite Happy Zombie Happy Holidays fabric!

I am one lucky swapper :D

So is it too soon to start decorating for Christmas???

Cheers,

Colette

February! October 21, 2010

Filed under: October 2010,Sewing,Swaps — The Threaded Nest @ 8:21 am

I finally got to try my hand at a little raw edge applique comforstitching style (tutorial HERE)!

and I looooovve her!

Too bad she’s not for me =0(

But she is going to a really good home…

to my secret Scrappy { Hoops } Swap partner!

Looks like she’ll be put into a lovely bright red hoop :D

This “February” embroidery pattern is from Sarah Jane Studios and can be purchased (HERE).

My only words of caution…

you MUST use a fusible stabilizer on the back of the linen

BEFORE you begin your free motion drawing with the sewing machine!!!

Happy stitching,

Colette

I have been drooling over this baby for months

(and unsuccessfully entering contests all over blogland trying to win one)

and now its FINALLY mine!

Oh Happy Day!

Happy cutting,

Colette

Its all about the furry friends! October 19, 2010

Filed under: October 2010,Swaps — The Threaded Nest @ 9:56 am

I’m so SO so excited…

Wagatha’s was sweet enough to give me a little treat to send along with my Savvy {Seasons} Swap package

for the furry friends in my swap partner’s life ;D!

After receiving my lovely Union Jacks package (HERE) from Trudi

(that thoughtfully included some goodies for my little girl)

it got me thinking that it would be fun to send along something special for my partner’s pampered poochies.

I immediately thought of having my Hubby grab some Wagatha’s Organic Dog Biscuits

not only because they are a fantastic local company

but because they make the best and yummiest dog biscuits ever!!!

Just ask my Hubby ;D

He freaks people out by eating them, ha ha,

he’s not really a freak (OK well maybe a little)

the biscuits are actually human food grade.

So I just wanted to give a shout out to Neil over at Wagatha’s:

“Thanks ~ you are the sweetest~ and I know her furry friends will flip for the Cranberry Cheddar biscuits!”

Hop on over to wagatha’s.com (HERE) to check out all of their yummy biscuits :D

Happy shopping,

Colette

Holy Union Jacks Batman!

And its all authentic from the UK :D

All of these goodies were sent from Trudi (Trudi-quiltingprolifically) for the Scrappy Mug Rug Swap.

Really, she couldn’t have made another mug rug as perfectly suited to me (and my love of all things British) as this one!

And she is such a doll to send along a wee little mug rug and some sweets for R.!

Oh happy mornings!

Happy tea drinking and cookie eating ;D

inspired by this “Bundles of Joy” quilt (HERE)

And I even gave hand quilting a try…

and of course I love it :D

Not bad for a first time???

Off to work on project #3!

Blanket and Pillow Oh My! October 12, 2010

Filed under: October 2010,Sewing — The Threaded Nest @ 1:23 pm

A couple of weeks ago, R. and her friend Will each made a pillow case for charity at a local quilt shop.

She has been nagging me ever since to let her choose some fabrics to make one for her own room.

R. looked around forever (so it seemed!) until she found this Alexander Henry Mod Dots fabric that she fell in love with.

Then she picked out this beautiful Kaffe Fassett (have I told you how much I love his fabrics?) print

and added a light pink solid.

She even did most of the sewing herself!

Sweet pillow equals sweet dreams!

And look at what came over the weekend!!!!

I won Jessica’s quilt giveaway on her blog Give it a Go (HERE) a few months ago…

and this is what she sent me…

This little strip of yellow on the pieced binding is my favorite part of the whole quilt.

BTW this is Jessica’s own pattern that will be available for purchase soon!

Originally this was planned to be a gift for my new baby nephew Mason

~welcome sweet baby boy~

so I asked her to make it up in the Castle Peeps and gray fabrics.

But when it came over the weekend

R. opened the box and flipped over it!!!

She gave me a thousand reasons why it should be hers…

and alas, after looking into those big brown pleading eyes I gave in :D

Oh happy Days!

Thank you Jessica so very much!

Happy sewing,

Colette

‘Tis the season to be jolly

fa la la la la la la la la!

Well not quite yet…but VERY soon ;D

I’m definitely getting in the holiday spirit working on my Savvy Seasons Swap.

After seeing the beautiful bunting Kirsten made for the Urban Home Goods Swap (HERE)

I was so inspired I just had to make up one for my partner for the Savvy Seasons Swap.

Kirsten was also really sweet by answering all of my questions

(I know, I know, I ask toooooo many questions!)

about how to make one and pointed me in the direction of

msmcporkchopquilts Castle Peeps bunting tutorial (HERE).

My swap partner asked for something wintry but not holiday specific per se

and being the all-things-British lover that I am…

I just couldn’t resist spelling out cheers with some raw edge applique (a first for me!)

Of course I had to make the reverse side lovely too…

(that way she can choose which side she wants to display)

or even lovelier if it hangs in a doorway or staircase railing.

My fingers are crossed that I will get a Holiday bunting too…

otherwise I’ll surely be whipping one of these cuties up for myself!

p.s. – I have BIG plans for making lots and lots of seasonal buntings ~ tee hee :D

Happy sewing,

Colette

all of this rain has been perfect… October 1, 2010

Filed under: October 2010,Quilting,Sewing,Swaps,Virtual Quilting Bees — The Threaded Nest @ 4:47 pm

Perfect for staying in and finishing up the rest of my embroider-bee blocks :D

Briana requested red and aqua with a woodland theme.

I love the vintagey feel of this block!

And Susan (all the way in Australia!) wanted something French inspired in red, white, and blue.

Both blocks were embroidered using Tasha Noel’s “Mushroom Dress” embroidery pattern (HERE).

I love LOVE love all of her little dress embroidery patterns and fabrics…

and am dreaming of making up a whole quilt using them all!

This spring inspired block in yellow, blue, and green is on it’s way to SCOTLAND!

Ha, ha, R. asked if I could mail her along with my block.

Someday my little love Mum will take you!

Its a bit tough to see my light blue little gnomie in the picture…

sorry but with all of the rain taking a good picture has been tricky.

Oh, and I can’t forget the winter/ Scandinavian themed block for Jessica that I posted (HERE) last week :D

I had loads of fun making up these embroidered blocks for such lovely bee-hivers,

and I look forward to doing another round of this bee in the future!

Happy quilting,

Colette
